14 Pomegranate Plant Care Tips

June 14, 2021 | More: Uncategorized

Pomegranates are an exotic member of the citrus family that produces small red, purple or blue fruit. Known for its nutritional and medicinal properties for centuries, the pomegranate tree is a symbol of wealth and good health throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. The pomegranate is related to cranberries, plums and nectarines in looks and taste, but has many more outstanding features.

For a rewarding home care experience, give the pomegranate tree a good root pruning at the first sign of leaves dropping, so new growth is encouraged. New shoots should be removed at this time so they don’t grow too fast. Pomegranate growers find that when care is done properly, the pomegranate tree will reward you with years of healthy, delicious fruit.

Pomegranate can be successfully grown on a variety of different soil types, including gravel, sand, planting mix, and clays. However, there are certain guidelines that must be followed when caring for your pomegranate tree. Make sure that the pomegranate tree gets plenty of sunlight, whether you plant it in a traditional garden container or outside. You should also provide it with some shade during hot summer days.

Pomegranate needs regular watering, so be sure to water it regularly, especially during the hot summer months. If you do not water it properly, the fruit may dry up and be unable to produce any pulp. The pomegranate tree will also lose some of its nutritional value if it is not given regular home care.

In addition to the regular home care needed to keep a pomegranate tree healthy, it is important to protect it from wind damage as well. Wind can knock down even very sturdy trees, so be sure to place wind breaks on your patio, deck, or gazebo. If you live in an area that receives wind at all, be sure to place hurricane shutters or other protection over your home. You may also want to invest in a pomegranate covered shed, which will give your pomegranate tree a safe place to grow without the risk of being exposed to wind or other types of weather damage. Homeowners often find that a pomegranate covered shed is an excellent choice for home care.

Growing a pomegranate tree is an excellent choice for anyone looking to add a bit of pomegranate to their diet. These little berries are filled with vitamins, calcium, and antioxidant-rich chlorophyll. If you enjoy a sweet treat each day, a pomegranate is a wonderful choice. Giving it the care it deserves, will ensure that your pomegranate tree blooms for many years to come.
