15 Step to Grow Chile Peppers in Your Garden

The most commonly grown home garden plants are tomatoes, peppers and grapevines. These three plants are among the most popular, easy to grow and harvest plants in the home garden. And they are a great introduction to home gardening as well as an excellent snack for the family. Here are some home gardening tips on how to best plant your garden with these three crops.

To start with, the Chiles are best planted in full sun, as they will need at least six hours of direct sunlight to thrive. If you are fortunate enough to live in a part of the world where there is a year-round sunshine, then this should be the ideal growing season for your chile plant and Chile pepper varieties. Other important considerations are the soil type, moisture and nutrients. These factors will dictate the germination of your chiles. And of course, if you choose to have your chiles eat then you will want to enjoy them fresh as well as in their home form.

If you live in a warm and sunny part of the country, you will find that while plant will do equally well in any location. Of course, if you live in a colder climate with shorter days and colder temperatures, you might consider planting Chile peppers in a raised bed or containers. However, when planting Chiles in containers you should have the proper pot size right. This is because it is not only a matter of the size of the container, but the size of the chiles that you want to include in the mixture.

If you are planning to use your chiles in salsa, you might want to grow them in pots that are tall and narrow for easy access. The nice thing about growing Chile peppers in a raised bed is that you will have the ability to move the peppers around as they grow. If you plan to have them for salsa, then be sure to remove any unripe berries that may have gathered on the ground before plowing. As you see your garden sprouting away, you will notice that the chiles will soon reach maturity.

In case you are interested in using your chile plant as a spice for your salsa, be aware that many people actually prefer the flavor of the fresh Chiles versus the canned variety. Canned Chiles tend to lose a lot of their flavor over time. It is best to keep your chiles fresh and spicy by picking them. Of course, if you are looking to have your chiles preserved for later use, you could always go the commercial route and purchase bulk dried Chiles. Either way, it would be best to pickle your chiles before placing them into your garden.

A final note regarding growing Chile plant. Most Chile plants will need a lot of moisture so be sure to plan for frequent watering. Some varieties of Chile plant are very drought tolerant, so there is no need to worry. However, other chiles such as Serrano or Anaheim may require more frequent watering. For this reason, it would be best to research the type of pepper you would like to grow in your garden and get as much information on watering as possible. You will be glad that you took the time to learn about Chile plant care so that you can be sure you give your chiles the best chances of growth.
