Lemons are fruits that vary greatly in size and appearance. They are produced by the Citron plant or commonly known as lemon. The lemon is actually rare species of tree in the melon-bearing plant family Rutaceae, originally from southern Asia, mostly Northeast India. This fruit produces a sweet juice that is used in various recipes including cakes, custards, juices, and pickles. Lemons are very important parts of the citrus family. Lemons are also the most popular fruits in the United States, being the second most consumed fruit behind only water.

Growing Lemons is relatively easy. The lemon grows best when it is planted in full sun but can be found in shaded areas as well. It will grow up to be about six to ten inches across, with the largest specimens reaching one foot in diameter. The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound, with one side having white flowers and the other colors vary depending on the variety. The lemon fruit can be eaten like most other fruits, although some people believe it to be sour. Lemons can be eaten fresh, preserved by freezing them in water, can be juiced, grilled, stewed, or added to other dishes.

For growing Lemons, you should have an inch of gravel already in place when you start. If you do not, you will need to add one-fourth of a cup of bone meal to every two cups of water you use. The dirt should be slightly moist with a hint of potassium. You will need to water your Lemons every other day, although you may want to water the plants daily if they are in a warm part of the world, such as the United States. You should feed your Lemons each day with a tablespoon of sugar.

There are several different varieties of Lemons, each with its own set of grow instructions. Before you begin growing them, read through the book that came with your starter plants, or consult the grower at your local nursery. You should also make a list of the things you will need to get started, including the amount of sun or shade the plant will need, potting soil, fertilizers and so forth. You will also want to know if you will need to add any houseplants before you start growing. Your Lemons plant will need to have plenty of drainage, since it will be in full sun most of the time, but it also has the option of partial shade during the hotter days.

Most importantly, plant your Lemons to get used to the idea that they are going to grow and prosper just like other plants do. Do not over-water them, but do take care to keep them watered when they are experiencing extreme drought. You should consider pruning your plants at least once a year to keep them healthy. They will also grow quicker and produce more often if you make your cuts on the correct places.

As long as you follow your Lemons plant grow instructions, you should be able to enjoy your tasty treat for years to come. Of course, like all new things, you’ll need some form of water to keep your Lemons healthy. Since Lemons have a water absorbent quality, it is best to only give them as much water as the leaves seem to need. Overwatering them may result in your plants wilting, which is not desirable. You can also plant a cover crop under your Lemons to prevent too much rain from eroding your soil. If you follow these grow tips, your Lemons will grow beautifully and be well cared for.
