A plum is usually a fruit of a particular species of Prunus species, also known as Prunus species. Mature plum berries can have a dusty-yellow waxy surface, which gives them a purplish-red appearance. This is actually a epicuticle wax coating and is called “wax cap”. The fruit itself has a somewhat tart taste and is eaten as an apple. Dried plums have a grayish-brown appearance and are used as a stuffing for stuffed animals. Plum wines are made from the skin of plums.

Plum trees prefer rocky areas and are found in forested areas in tropical and subtropical climates. The male trees produce the majority of the crop while the females tend to produce fruit infrequently. The trees bear fruit, which are small and round with a soft feel inside. The trees can be harvested often for their nuts, which are dried and then worn as a cuff around the neck or worn on a string as a necklace.

Plum container gardening instructions suggest that when preparing the soil for planting, add one cup of bone meal per 5-inch pot. Place the pot in a shaded area. Make sure that the pit is rimmed with about a half cup of bone meal or bark dust. The soil should be moist but not soggy.

When the plant starts to grow, it will need lots of space. A trellis system will provide additional space and assist in producing quality plum plantings. The plants grow best if they are planted in good rich soil with plenty of light. Do not over water the plants as this will cause the roots to rot.

One variety of plum has very small and delicate flowers which do not produce a lot of fruit. The branches of this variety are very spiky. The other varieties are known for their large, woody branches with long needles and their ability to grow up to six feet in height.

The beautiful plum with its distinctive yellow and black stripes has a long shelf like stem. It is easily grown from cuttings taken in the first year. These plants have an open flower head with one or two large white flowers in the center. The flowers fade to a yellowish color when they are not pollinated. The fruit blooms in the late winter and early spring. plum has two years of good growing potential and will grow to about two feet high with a spread of four feet across.
