English peas are a hardy crop that can tolerate some drought and hot temperatures, but need plenty of water to stay healthy. When starting to grow an English peas garden, the first thing to do is to choose the appropriate spot for planting. Some great spots for an English garden include on an old tree, a fence, or in the shade on a sunny windowsill. The plant likes full sun but will tolerate partial shade as well.

To begin the care of your English peas, purchase a good book with a good history of growing and gardening. Read this book and familiarize yourself with the proper way to feed and water your plants. There are also plenty of web sites with excellent information about caring for your new English peas.

The most important tip to remember when caring for your new plant is to never over water. English peas require more water than most other pets, so do not use any irrigation system to keep your plant from drying out. Use a trickle irrigation system instead, which is less expensive and will help prevent your plants from drying out too much.

After you have decided on a good spot for your English peas and have been watering your plant, it is time to think about what kind of diet to provide for your new vegetable. A traditional English garden includes mainly black gram flour in the spring and summer months. In the fall and winter, you will be able to add a bit of red or yellow grain, but no corn. This is because corn requires more water than any other variety of peas. So in the spring and summer seasons, only add what you need to avoid the plant being over-watered.

During the cold months of the year, English peas are best eaten in their seed form. If you wish to harvest your crops in the fall and winter months, then you will want to lightly dig the seeds out of your plants and spread them out on sprigs in the autumn. These peas will take a bit longer to germinate, but the taste is certainly better and the appearance is better as well.

You will also want to check your soil at least once a week during the growing season. If your soil is not getting enough water, then add some organic mulch or even wet newspaper to help get more moisture into the soil. Remember, proper care for your English peas means that you will enjoy these healthy plants for years to come!
