The Quince plant is a hardy vine that produces small fruit. The fruit is firm and dark purple in color. The plant grows best in well drained, sandy soil that is somewhat acidic in nature. The sweetest of the fruits are harvested when the fruit starts to bloom.

If you live in an area that does not get full sun, you may have to relocate your Quince Plant from warm climates to cool or cold climates. There are varieties that do extremely well in colder climates because they can handle the chillier temperatures. They are one of the few fruits that can be grown in a container. If you plant them in a container, they will need to have a trellis to climb on so they can reach the top of the plant. When the top of the fruit starts to bloom, they will be covered with little blue, purple or white flowers and available for picking.

You should provide your new plants with some good, warm soil. When you are planting them in their first season, use potting soil. It is best if you add compost when you are planting them. You should feed your plant every two weeks in early spring. In early summer you should feed quince growing plants every three weeks. However, you should avoid feeding your plant after the second frost.

After you have posted your plant in its containers, you should put them in a shallow potting soil mixture. Then you should let the soil mixture stay in place for about two weeks until the roots of your plant are firmly anchored to the bottom of the pot. When this has happened you can remove the plant from the pot and cut the root ball almost to the same depth as the top edge.

Once your plant has been planted in the soil mixture, you should water it very gently. But you should check that the soil is moist enough before you start digging the hole for planting. When you have watered the Quince Plant, you can remove the root ball completely and spread the soil.

You should keep your young quince plants under the house and away from strong winds. If you are going to give your young plants a hardy growth period, you can divide them into four or five groups and repot them every few years. When you are reporting them, do not forget to remove the damaged roots. Repotting is necessary to make sure that your beautiful quince plant grows into a healthy plant. You should not do it more than once a year because you will end up damaging the plant.
